Golden Boy promotions announced today, the day that we will all witness Manny Pacquiao fight Cotto in Las Vegas, that a fight between Sugar Shane Mosley and Andre Berto will take place on January 30th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Berto (25-0, 19 KOs), the WBC welterweight champ will face his toughest opponent when he steps to Shane Mosley (46-5-0, 39 KOs), the WBA welterweight title holder, who last knocked out Antonio Margarito last Jan. 24th, even though Margarito had illegal plaster cast cemented into his gloves.
Margarito lost his welterweight belt that night, and has been suspended from the sport for a year.He should have been charged with a crime, because hitting someone on their head with a plaster cast is like striking them with brass knuckles, which could kill a human being.
Golden Boy Promotions will co-promote the fight with Lou Dibella Promotions. It will be shown on HBO. No pay per view.
Berto is a talented fighter, but I predict that Shane will knock him out, as Pacquiao will do to Cotto tonight, no disrespect to Cotto or his fans….so if you disagree, comment here and let me know.
I recommend that you all watch the fight, because both are action packed fighters.
So, before the fight tonight between Cotto and Pac man Pacquiao…let me know what your prediction is,and after the fight,if I am right, or wrong, sound off here.Who knows, maybe I need to stick to politricks…

Alleged 9/11 mastermind to be tried in New York…
Five Gitmo detainees involved in the 9/11 terrorist attack will be transported to New York City and tried in Federal Court. One of the five is the mastermind behind the 9/11 attack Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who was captured in Pakistan back in March 2003.
I think it is only fitting that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed be prosecuted in the city that he caused so much death and destruction. Hopefully they find the darkest coldest cell in New York City while he awaits his fate.

As a Yankees diehard, I know a little something about rivalries being blown way out of proportion. Every summer, the fine people at Fox and ESPN subject America to a barrage of vignettes of Yankees/Red Sox clashes. It’s usually the same stock footage:
- Babe Ruth
- Ted and Joe D
- Fisk/Munson
- Pedro/Zimmer
- Aaron Boone
- A-Rod/Maskitek (Yeah, I don’t respect a dude that leaves his mask on during a fight.)
- The 2004 Red Sox
- Joba/Youkilis
The rivalry has been propped up as the biggest rivalry in sports. Here’s the thing… it isn’t. It’s the biggest in baseball, sure. But sports? Hardly. There’s the Old Firm, tOSU/Michigan, Arsenal/Spurs, God knows what happens in South America…. The point is, we’re not the only show in town.
Hell, many of the Yankees and Red Sox players share agents and are known friends off the field. Even amongst fans, the rivalry is not as heated as you’d believe. Sure, there are drunken idiots at both stadiums (more at Fenway, cough cough, NO ONE DENIES THIS!,) but the point is, it’s not THAT serious in the whole scheme of things.
Which brings me to another certain controversy…of Teh Internets variety… the reason we’re all gathered here at this moment:
The Deadspin Commenter Fiasco of 2009…
To recap:
Deadspin editor AJ Daulerio made an ominous post; the Commentariat lost its collective sh*t; threats were made; “ninjas” were sent on a rampage; a shadow government was launched; and, I made a little video as a response to the whole deal. (Yes, I did it. Hooray me.) People laughed, and AJ, to his credit, posted a link to it and the “Parliament” of the shadow government… and people lived happily ever after… well for the most part, anyway.
So, as a service to the displaced commentariat (and to my blog…page views… ooh, ooh!) I will be hosting this evening’s edition of Last Call, and it happens to be the same night of yet another chapter in the Yankees/Sox story. I will pop in from time to time-probably to yell about the Yankees continually pissing me off-but this is the People’s post.
It’s Last Call…
For the next year, I will be working with Rebecca Burgess, ecological artist and writer, on her book Gathering Color. The book will teach people how to create natural dyes, from native plants in their region, for their fiber arts projects. In order for the book to have national appeal, we are traveling to as many different geographic regions as we can, to work with locals who use native plants for their own fiber creations.
Our first adventure was to the Navajo Reservation in Window Rock, Arizona. It was my first time in the Navajo Nation, so I did a little more documenting than was necessary for the book, but I couldn’t help myself. Not only were the urban and natural landscapes so visually interesting, but also it was Inter-Tribal Ceremonial weekend and National Navajo Code Talkers Day, so there was a lot going on.
Our adventure was divided between two days. One day for hunting and gathering, and one day for dyeing.
Our day of plant hunting began bright and early on Friday morning and it involved lots of driving, climbing under barbed wire fences, digging for wild carrots, walking on endless plateaus of sage, and discovering Navajo Tea in an incredible Navajo Veterans’ cemetery at sunset.
To link the traditional Navajo plants with the traditional Navajo wool, we also went on a search for the rare Navajo-Churro Sheep. We found a herd at the Hubbell Trading Post, where we learned how the US government almost killed off the breed completely, on two different occasions, and consequently devastated the Navajo people, who depended on the sheep for survival. It is absolutely amazing that both the Navajo and the Churro still exist today.
Day two…our dyeing day, was spent at Rose’s house, where we were welcomed by a chorus of cute dogs and a few of her fourteen grandchildren, who she is raising with the help of her husband, Henry.
When Rebecca and I arrived, we found Rose already getting the pots ready over the fire pit. Once the water started to boil, it was on. Everyone had to work quickly in the heat and smoke. I learned that dyeing wool with natural dyes is about finding the perfect balance between plant matter, wool, time, heat, and water, in order to get the perfect color.
If you are curious to know more about the people, the process, and the plants, visit Rebecca’s blog: http://ecologicalartist.wordpress.com/2009/08/18/desert-harvest/. Rebecca took lots of good notes about Rose’s story, and about the plants that Rose’s family has been using for so many generations.
It is really really nice to work with writers who focus on the details, while I get to focus on the visuals. I wish all my projects came with talented writers. Thank you Rebecca and Kitty for this amazing opportunity.
